Toys are essential for babies’ growth and development. In fact, it should be something that you should be considering just after baby clothes, baby bottles, diapers, your baby’s crib, among other essentials.
Baby toys can provide a means for your baby to learn more about their immediate environment and they will be remiss if they do not have access to them.
Fortunately, I will provide you with some toy buying tips so that you will be guided on what types of toys are appropriate for your little one.
So, without further ado, let’s get started!
There are many different toy categories out there that can easily bombard parents who do not know how to choose the best one for their children.
If your baby is relatively young, you should go back to basics and think about getting them any of these toys:
These toys include dolls, stuffed animals, food utensils, toy cars and planes, buildings, and a whole lot more. These toys can help your baby discern and learn more about the world around them. They will then start to pretend and act out certain scenarios using these toys so it is definitely something that is worth considering for your baby.
Fine Motor Skills-
When your baby is relatively young, you want to make sure to improve their fine motor skills in the best way possible. For you to do that, you can get them some puzzles, toys with blocks, different shapes, and even trains.
Babies are especially fond of coloring which is why you’d want to buy them some coloring and art materials that are appropriate for their age. For instance, you can buy them a drawing book and some non-toxic crayons to start with.
Aside from honing their fine motor skills, you will also want to have them develop their physical wellbeing as well. For that purpose, you’d want to buy them something they can ride on such as a tricycle, a ride-on toy, some balls, and so much more.
When shopping for toys, it is important to keep in mind all of these things:
Do Not Purchase ‘Educational’ Toys Immediately-
When perusing a baby toy store, you will find that there are some toys that are for ‘educational’ purposes and although I am not questioning the validity of that claim, you shouldn’t buy them just because they are said to improve your child’s cognitive abilities. Educational toys only improve one part of your baby brain’s development and that is only their memory and some cognitive abilities. You will still need to train their physical aspects as well, which is why you want to also buy them the toys that I’ve mentioned earlier in this article. In other words, vary the toys that you are going to buy for them.
Limit Computer Games-
We are now in the age of computers but it is important for you to know that you should limit the total screen time of your kids. That means that you should limit their playing time (supposing that they are playing some computer games) to just an hour or two per day so that they will have the energy to do more physical activities.
