An automatic watch or even a classic mechanical watch can always look good on a man. In fact, it is the only socially-acceptable accessory that he can wear no matter what the occasion is.

But, just like the clothes that you wear, there are certain style rules that you have to be aware of if you want your timepiece to accentuate your look.

Today, I am going to provide you with some really helpful styling watch tips.

Choose Analog

What is the difference between an analog watch and a digital watch? Well, the latter looks cheap and doesn’t accentuate any man’s style; the former will look good on you though.

This is not to say that digital watches do not have a place on your wrist because they do. What I am saying is that if you want to buy a watch solely for the purpose of improving the way you look, the safest bet is to opt for the analog display instead.

The reason why you’d want to do so is that it just looks simple and really complements your outfit, especially when you are wearing a tuxedo or a black suit and tie. It can also look good on casual occasions as well.

Match It with the Color of Your Shoes/Belt

You might have noticed by now that watches come with different colored straps and materials. That is because you want to match it with the other things that you wear as well.

A good rule of thumb would be to look at the color of your belt and shoes because these two usually go hand in hand. So, if you are wearing both a brown belt and brown shoes, using a brown leather strap just makes sense in this regard.

Of course, you can always go with the safest route by choosing a metal watchband but just make sure that it truly complements your wrist and is not oversized by any means.

Think Minimal

Despite the fact that there are a lot of different watches with all of those different and enticing features, it is still best that you go for the more minimalistic watches. That is because the watch’s purpose (from a pure fashion standpoint) is to accentuate the outfit that you are wearing. Having a flashy watch may distract people from that.

Consider the Occasion

Now, I did mention that digital watches still have their place and they should only be used if you are exercising or doing any activities that can make you sweat (aside from sex).

Just remember that if you are going to a formal event, it is important that you choose a watch that is simple yet stylish. You do not want to go overboard by choosing an oversized watch with all of the bells and whistles.

Should You Be Wearing Heirlooms?

Heirloom watches hold a lot of history. Sure, you can wear them and apply the same style rules as mentioned above, but you may want to be extra careful since heirloom watches are special for a reason.
